Join ACE MV and MVNC to welcome and learn from President Biden's Director of the national service program that grants funds for organizations to hire AmeriCorps members. AmeriCorps grants are open to national and local nonprofits, schools, government agencies, faith-based, community organizations, and other groups committed to strengthening their communities through volunteering. AmeriCorps positions are opportunities for Americans 17 or older to serve in communities across the country. This special session with Sonali Nijhawan is meant for Island organizations like yours to learn how you could host one or two AmeriCorps members in the coming year. These positions are funded through grants from AmeriCorps to a mainland nonprofit (like LISC). In return for working full or part time, the member earns a stipend and educational award to use toward college or other schooling. If you recruit someone who already lives here, finding housing wouldn't be an obstacle. Sonali will also explain how you could apply directly to AmeriCorps for a grant to host more AmeriCorps members.
Sonali also will be meeting with high school students on May 22 to explain how they can apply to serve as an AmeriCorps member in positions around the country. If you know people who might be interested in doing AmeriCorps but won't likely be in those high school sessions (opportunities are open to people of all ages) please send an email to Jeni at jeni@acemv.org.
