MV Nonprofit Data

Nonprofits are the backbone of

Martha's Vineyard.

From housing and healthcare to education, the arts, and environmental protection, they sustain essential services across the Island.

According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2022 Massachusetts was one of five states reporting the highest shares of nonprofit employment, with 17.6% of private employment in nonprofit organizations. Dukes County had the sixth highest share of nonprofit employment in the state.

MVNC initiated and conducted research to provide a data-driven picture of the sector's current health and future trajectory. Using this data, we've produced a report that highlights key trends in nonprofit workforce compensation and benefits practices.

MVNC's goal in producing this report is to equip community members, nonprofit leaders, funders, and policymakers with clear, actionable insights to strengthen the sector's sustainability.

The total number of registered nonprofits includes all organizations with a 501(c) designation.

Total revenue, contributions, and employees is based on data from 501(c)(3) organizations only.
