Come Learn, Share, Network and Celebrate the Accomplishments of 2019!
On Dec. 5 we’ll have the first joint meeting where ED’s and Board Chairs can meet to discuss how to individually and collectively improve their organizations, Boards and impact.
The main act will cover a governance/fundraising topic you choose from a list of what you've told us you most want to address (see below). After you've registered you will be able to place your vote.
We will finish with a Holiday wine and cheese hour to toast your hard work and accomplishments in 2019!
To lead the governance portion of the program, we are bringing back Susan Meier, Senior BoardSource Consultant, who was rated very highly by the attendees at our October Governance Workshop. There will be small group exercises, so it’s best if you can come as a Board Chair – ED pair, but they’ll be designed to work for singles too.
This meeting is for Board Chairs (Presidents), Officers/Board Members who will become Chair in the next year, and Executive Directors.
Based on feedback from our last few workshops the 3 Governance topics/issues Island nonprofit leaders are most interested in addressing are listed below. MVNC plans to address all of these in upcoming programs, but for Dec. 5 we want to know which one you want to discuss now.
After you register for this free event, you'll get the poll and please rank these 3 in your priority order:
- Improving the Board – Staff (& the Board Chair – ED) Relationship: The Concept of Constructive Partnership. This session will address: What is Board Work and what is Staff Work? How to balance the work and responsibilities of the Board Chair and ED? How to address the most common issues, and the best practices of exceptional organizations?
- How to create a culture of fundraising in your Board and Organization. We all know that Board members need to be involved in fundraising, and that they can help fundraise without having to ask for money, but why does the stigma of “asking” still prevail and how can you get your Board to do more? This session will explore the answers to these questions and give you tips and tools to improve your fundraising effectiveness by making your Board members better ambassadors and fundraisers. If this option ranks number 1, we will invite Development Directors to attend as well.
- Developing a tailored plan to get your Board more engaged and have more effective Board meetings. This session will focus on tools and tips to make your Board meetings more effective and using Generative Thinking to improve the engagement of your Board. You will leave with specific Generative questions you can ask your Board to address the biggest issue you face.
