"Vineyard Reads: Racial Justice," a MVNC's book discussion group in collaboration with the West Tisbury Library, focuses on important readings and challenging views on race and racial attitude awareness. Participants will read, discuss, reflect on three books, and conclude with a wrap-up and future action planning session.
This book program is part of MVNC's series of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion anti-bias educational programs that aim to engage the Island community in productive conversations on racial attitude awareness, privilege, bias, institutional racism, and micro-inequities. The group is open and free to Vineyard nonprofit Boards, leaders, staff and volunteers, and interested individuals of the Island community.

The book discussions will be held November 2020 - February 2021 on Zoom. The Zoom login will be sent to you upon your RSVP.
BOOK THREE:
January 2021
Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents
Author: Isabel Wilkerson
Book Discussion: Thursday, January 7th at 12 pm
There was a time when ignorance was forgivable. But that time has passed, and hurt people hurt people. Now is the time for healing. And the healing begins with introspection and recognizing our own caste, our own biases, and our own discrimination. This short book peels back the veil and provides a brief glimpse into the history of seven virulent and persistent human biases.
